Spotlights

2023 Women in CRE: Yael Ron, Silverstein Properties

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of? My most important accomplishment has been creating a culture that includes standards, vision, mission, daily recognition, and the opportunity for my team to grow. I give them the tools and encouragement they need to succeed. Together, we create a sense of community for our commercial and residential tenants, while increasing retention rates and managing the different segments of Inspire in an involved and responsible way.

2023 Women in CRE: Katie Kurtz, Silverstein Properties

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of? As chief financial officer, my role is less singular transaction or project based but rather focused on the profitability, liquidity and overall financial health of the enterprise. Under my leadership, my team has implemented strong financial metrics and controls that have become even more important given the current market conditions and rising interest rates.

2023 Women in CRE: Yael Urman, Silverstein Properties

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of? I’m immensely proud of our groundbreaking partnership with Apple, HID, and SwiftConnect. We developed and launched the first Apple Wallet NFC mobile building access via our homegrown Inspire App. This innovation boosts tenant security and convenience.

2023 Women in CRE: Katelin Van Voorhis, RM Friedland

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of? We all know the saying “time kills deals” and have felt the frustration of a good deal withering on the vine. Given the seemingly longer and longer deal cycles of the past couple years, I’m proud of a turn-key nail salon transaction where I secured above-asking rent and a signed lease less than 7 weeks from posting a “sneak peek” video.

2023 Women in CRE: Samantha Testani, Cushman & Wakefield/Pyramid Brokerage Company

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of? I am most proud of a recent property sale to Tim Hortons. The location, a former medical office, presented an opportunity for a new property-use that was needed. The property’s location made it viable as a QSR location and through my connections/resources I was able to secure Tim Hortons.

2023 Women in CRE: Mary Guarino, ERG CRE/Short Term Capital

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of? My family has been in the business for over 30 years and actively lending. I was recently tasked with starting an additional company, branding it and marketing it to expand and take our lending business to a new level. It was difficult to create a new company while maintaining our credibility.

2023 Women in CRE: Julie Surago, Olive Tree Holdings

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of? I have been deeply involved in every step of the acquisition of 150 duplexes in Fayetteville, Arkansas through a portfolio arrangement. As we work towards uplifting the community, we have successfully sold 27 duplexes, a single-family home, and a condominium, with three duplexes and another condominium under contract.

2023 Women in CRE: Barbara Kavovit, Evergreen Construction

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of? I have worked on several exciting and significant projects recently and it would be too hard to choose just one. I am mostly proud of Evergreen’s accomplishment of playing such a large role in the world of real estate and being recognized by some of the largest landlords and corporations in NYC and continuing to be considered for major projects.

2023 Women in CRE: Camille Renshaw, B+E

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of? B+E has become the top car wash broker in the country over the last two years, completing sale leaseback transactions, helping buyers with properties that provide bonus depreciation and other tax benefits, and helping corporate owners with other types of sales and development.
