2023 Women in Construction: Hongbo Wang, DeSimone Consulting Engineering

In the past year, what project or accomplishment are you most proud of? As the most senior woman structural leader at DeSimone Consulting Engineering, I am proud of our work at 1841 Broadway, a 27-story residential tower in Manhattan. DeSimone is the engineer of record and façade consultant for the project, we also performed special inspection services for the reinforcing steel installation, concrete placement, and façade installation.

In the past year, what project or accomplishment are you most proud of? Being an integral part of the design team for the new affordable senior citizen residence located in Wyandanch Village. The project provided a great experience collaborating with other design professionals to meet project requirements, and I gained a better understanding of how many parties are involved in the building process.

In the past year, what project or accomplishment are you most proud of? The accomplishment that I am most proud of is becoming a licensed Professional Engineer. I studied for years to prepare for the exam and passed while eight months pregnant.

I am most proud of being part of the project team for the 28E28th St. repositioning commercial office building in NYC’s Flatiron district. It is a 15-story, 703,000 s/f building, and we were tasked with significant demolition, white boxing, enlarging multiple floors, HVAC and electrical system upgrades, a new floor-through lobby

Our firm has grown significantly over the past year, with the addition of three professionals that have added substantial knowledge and value to our company.
