Clinton of Brown & Brown Empire State to speak at BOMA lunch

According to the Building Owners & Managers Association of Greater Rochester, Eileen Clinton of Brown & Brown Empire State will be speaking at their upcoming luncheon on Wednesday, February 24th. The luncheon will be held at Mario's Italian Steakhouse. Clinton is a risk manager with GBC associate member Brown & Brown Empire State. Risk management services is a part of Brown & Brown. The company has a unit dedicated to environmental and energy planning as well as green sustainable techniques training for contractors. Risk managers and insurance companies have seen the myriad benefits of buildings going "green." In addition to the economic, health, and environmental benefits, there are benefits to lowering the risk of a building having the mechanical breakdown, having workers' compensation claims for its inhabitants, or indoor air-quality issues. It is for this reason that many insurance companies are beginnning to offer discounts for owners or contractors building "green." In addition, insurance companies, especially in the property areas, are offering creative enhancements and upgrade endorsements. Building owners need to be aware that traditional policies may not provide adequate coverage for the unique elements of a "green" building. Some of the enhancements in "green" building property coverage include: * Increased cost for "green" certified materials after a covered loss. * Upgrades after a covered loss for a non-LEED building to be built to a minimum "silver" LEED level * Upgrade endorsements for a LEED building after a covered loss to upgrade to the next LEED level. * Coverage for the increased cost of recycling debris versus debris removal or landfill. * Air-quality testing after construction and the increased cost of a flush out. Registration and networking begin at 11:30 a.m. The program and luncheon will begin at noon. There is no cost for current members in good standing, and guests are $35.
