Young Men's / Women's Real Estate Association to hold meeting 2/12

The Young Men's/ Womens Real Estate Association will hold a meeting February 12 featuring William Rudin, the president of Rudin Management Co. An invocation will be given by Earle Altman, YM/WREA chairman. In 1979, after graduating from New York University's School of Business and Public Administration with a bachelor of science degree, William Rudin joined the family real estate business, which had been started by his grandfather Samuel Rudin in 1925. Bill worked closely with his father Lewis and Uncle Jack to manage the Rudin portfolio of 16 office towers comprising more than 10 million s/f and 22 luxury apartment buildings. In December 1993 Bill was appointed president of Rudin Management Co., Inc. Carrying on the Rudin family tradition of hands on personal management, Bill has not only embraced his family responsibilities, but like his grandfather, father and uncle, he has been actively involved in New York City's political, civic and philanthropic life. Bill serves as chairman of The Association for a Better New York (ABNY), an organization co-founded by his father over thirty years ago. ABNY is a coalition of business, labor and political leaders that was created in the 70s to help make New York City a better place to live, work and visit. Bill has put his own personal mark on the family business by championing the resurgence of Lower Manhattan giving new life to old properties, both residential and commercial, through converting them into technology smart buildings. In 1995, after remaining vacant for five years, 55 Broad St. became the first building to bring broadband connectivity to each and every floor. With this innovative concept, and with the creation of a community for the new media and technology industries, 55 Broad St. was leased in 18 months and led to the turn around of Lower Manhattan. Other recent Rudin projects include developing the new North American headquarters for Reuters at 3 Times Sq., a 750,000 s/f, state of the art, environmentally friendly office building, as well as the conversion of the former AT & T headquarters at 32 Ave. of the Americas, to a telecommunications and media center. In addition to ABNY, Bill serves as chairman of The Battery Conservancy, a board member of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. as well as a board member of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The New York Hall of Science, New York University, The Real Estate Board of New York and The Alliance for Downtown New York. Bill is also a member of The Counsel of Foreign Relations, and a member of The New York City Marathon Committee and the JP Morgan Chase Manhattan Bank's Regional Advisory Board.
