Penzner, Stange and Mahl of Susan Penzner Real Estate represent Stuart in 1,100 s/f lease for new SoHo flagship store

Fashion designer Jill Stuart has moved from her former Greene St. location signing a long-term lease for a new flagship store in SoHo at 466 Broome St., which opened October 4th. Susan Penzner, Nathan Stange and Thomas Mahl of Susan Penzner Real Estate represented the tenant in the deal. CBC Alliance's Steve Tarter and Catherine O'Toole represented the landlord. The 1,100 s/f store is situated in a storied landmark building in SoHo's Cast-Iron Historic District and was designed by Belgian architect Francis D'Haene of D'Apostrophe, whose recent work includes the Dominique Lévy Gallery at 909 Madison Ave. The store layout takes cues from the runway, accentuating its long axis with simple, clean lined displays terminating in a Bronze mirror-clad rear wall. Collections will be displayed on custom blackened steel hang bars suspended from the ceiling, coupled with marble displays. The soft polished Venetian plaster walls and the matte wide plank oak board floors are a perfect backdrop for the brand's feminine and modern fabrications. The store's design embraces the history of the area and showcases the original cast iron Corinthian columns down the center of the high ceilinged space while maintaining an intimate and vibrant atmosphere. Broome St., with asking rents hovering around $300 per s/f, has become an attractive alternative to both long time "heart of SoHo" tenants and newcomers who are finding the more traditional retail blocks cost prohibitive. Jill Stuart joins notable tenants Isabel Marant, Jerome Dreyfuss, Sass & Bide, IRO and Kirna Zabete, who was Jill Stuart's long-time neighbor on Greene St. Even such an iconic and coveted brand as Celine has taken note and opened in September north of Broome on Wooster St. Originally seen as a move "off the beaten track" the store will benefit from the increased energy and foot traffic along Broome St.
