Darcy Stacom of CBRE to be honored at REBNY’s 2022 annual event, “New York Forever: A Celebration of Our City”

New York, NY The Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) will honor Darcy Stacom, CBRE chairman and head of NYC capital markets, with its Louis Smadbeck Memorial Broker Recognition Award. Established in 1991 by REBNY’s Commercial Brokerage Divisions, the award honors a REBNY broker for personal and professional integrity, long-term leadership, prominence in the brokerage community and participation in REBNY's committees. Named for an exemplary broker who died shortly after being selected to receive it, the award will be presented at “New York Forever: A Celebration of Our City,” REBNY's annual event that will be held this year on June 23.

In her more than 40 years working in the commercial real estate industry, Stacom has completed well over $145 billion in sales, financing, joint venture, leasehold and development transactions. Two prominent deals spearheaded by Stacom, the $5.4 billion sale of Peter Cooper Stuyvesant Town and the $2.8 billion sale of the GM Building, stand as the largest of their kind in history.

Stacom is devoted to her industry leadership. A member of the Board of Governors for REBNY, Stacom is co-chair of the Diversity Committee, where she shines a spotlight on the importance of increasing diversity within the industry.

“Simply put, the skyline and make-up of REBNY as we know it today would not be the same without Darcy Stacom,” said REBNY president James Whelan. “She is a titan in our industry whose professional accomplishments are only matched by her efforts to introduce the opportunities offered by real estate to a wider and more diverse range of individuals.”

As a board member for New York University’s Schack Institute she co-organizes the annual Women in Real Estate conference, one of the industry’s most prestigious professional conferences for women in commercial real estate. On the board and executive committee of Phipps Houses, she works to preserve and develop much needed quality affordable housing.

“It is an honor to be recognized by REBNY and its members for my career, and specifically the recognition this award signals for the integrity and leadership I bring to my work every day,” said Stacom.

Major transactions involving Stacom over the last year include SL Green Realty Corp’s $445 million acquisition of 450 Park Ave., Nuveen Real Estate and Norges Bank Investment Management’s $290 million sale of 475 Park Ave. and Equity Residential’s $266 million 140 Riverside Blvd. In 2021, Stacom and William Shanahan won REBNY’s Most Ingenious Deal of the Year Award for the $900 million sale of 330 Madison Ave.

Stacom will be one of several honorees at the annual event. A portion of event proceeds will go to the REBNY Foundation, which is helping to increase diversity and inclusion in the real estate industry through ongoing initiatives such as the REBNY Fellows Leadership Program in partnership with Coro New York and REBNY’s Internship Program in partnership with Project Destined and the City University of New York (CUNY). The REBNY Foundation also supports the non-profit Building Skills New York, which connects New Yorkers from historically underserved communities with good construction jobs and career opportunities. Additionally, REBNY’s new partnership with the non-profit NY Forever on this year’s event will help to amplify the work of an array of citywide volunteer and philanthropic initiatives promoted through the NY Forever network.

The death of the generic offering memorandum: What buyers expect in 2025 - by Kimberly Zar Bloorian

There was a time when an offering memorandum (OM) was pretty bare bones, some photos, a few bullet points on income, and a rent roll thrown in at the back. That used to get the job done. Not anymore. In 2025, buyers are sharper, faster, and more selective. They’re looking

Tri-state capital migrates nationally amid regulation pressure - by Reese Weaver

New York tri-state multifamily investors are increasingly reallocating capital to less-regulated markets across the U.S. as rent control and legislative risk erode returns at home. With over 60% of New York City’s rental housing stock classified as rent-stabilized, the traditional value-add model — buying under-performing buildings,
