Buffalo, NY Wendel, a nationally recognized design, construction and energy services company (ESCO), was selected for two Buffalo Business First Brick by Brick awards. The Niagara Falls Amtrak Station and Peace Bridge Authority Commercial Inspection Building received Brick by Brick awards in the categories of Best New Construction and Best Green Construction/Rehab, respectively.

Honoring the best of the best in real estate, construction and development, these exclusive awards highlight the accomplishments of Western New York’s development industry. Also, with the growing development in the region, competition this year was at an all-time high.

The Niagara Falls Amtrak Station, owned by the city of Niagara Falls, is a new mixed-use facility that accommodates a variety of transportation modes, including Amtrak passenger service, local and regional bus, trolley, automobile, taxi, bicycle and pedestrians. The project included the restoration of the 1863 U.S. Customhouse, which now houses the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Museum. This facility serves as an impetus for future development of the north Main St. commercial district of Niagara Falls, and provides a portal for tourists and commuters.

The Peace Bridge Authority Commercial Inspection Building, owned by the Buffalo & Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority, was in need of a renovation and addition to the existing inspection building at the U.S. plaza. The project included an 18,000 s/f addition, as well as comprehensive renovation of the 43,500 s/f facility, updating it to 21st Century standards for U.S. Customs inspections. The design created a relationship between public and government areas that permit interaction while maintaining security and inspection functions necessary for a major port of entry to the nation.

Presented by Buffalo Business First, commercial real-estate industry professionals, including developers, architects, contractors and engineers, gathered to learn this year’s results at the 15th Annual Awards Program on June 12, 2017 at the Lexus Club at KeyBank Center.

The death of the generic offering memorandum: What buyers expect in 2025 - by Kimberly Zar Bloorian

There was a time when an offering memorandum (OM) was pretty bare bones, some photos, a few bullet points on income, and a rent roll thrown in at the back. That used to get the job done. Not anymore. In 2025, buyers are sharper, faster, and more selective. They’re looking
