Upcoming NYCREW events: "Fashion DIGS This" and "Effective Networking"

On March 13, 2008, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Saks Fifth Ave. (2nd floor), NYCREW Network will host a "Fashion DIGS This" event featuring a cocktail party, fashion show (courtesy of St. Johns), raffle and lots of fun and gifts. This event is to raise funds in support of CREW Careers: Building Opportunities, a CREW Foundation national program through which NYCREW Network will be partnering with Youth Empowerment Mission (YEM), to present "DIG This." This fundraising event is sponsored by Saks Fifth Ave. and its St. John's Dept. Event Location: Saks Fifth Ave., 611 Fifth Ave., (between 49th and 50th Sts.) 2nd Floor. Advance Registration Fee (tax-deductible): $75. Through CREW Careers: Building Opportunities, a CREW Foundation national program, NYCREW Network presents, "DIG This," an exciting new initiative to be implemented by NYCREW for the benefit of YEM, and designed to develop relationships inspiring young women to grow! YEM is a not-for-profit organization based in Bedford-Stuyvesant, founded by Isis Sapp-Grant, which focuses on assisting young women who live in high-risk environments marked by poverty, poor health and other environmental hazards who are growing increasingly susceptible to truancy, gang involvement, depression and victimization. "DIG This" (Development Inspiration & Growth) will take place on April 23rd, when NYCREW will present a full-day CREW Careers: Building Opportunities program for the girls of YEM, to introduce them to commercial real estate, teach them not to fear responsible real estate development and train them in team-building and analytical thinking, as they focus on planning a redevelopment project in Brooklyn. This program supports YEM's mission to assist these young women in moving from crisis to competency, by equipping them with some of the skills, information, work ethic, experience, and self-confidence needed to become emotionally strong and financially responsible, successful, and empowered future entrepreneurs. In addition to opening their eyes about potential new careers, it should also serve to raise their awareness early about the benefits of networking and developing long-term relationships, and offer ongoing mentoring to those interested in pursuing a career in commercial real estate. NYCREW will also hold a panel discussion titled, "Effective Networking: How to be a Superstar." The event will take place on Wednesday, March 26, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Penn Club, located at 30 West 44th St. The admission fees will be as follows: $50 NYCREW members, $85 non-members, and $30 graduate-level students. Advance registration suggested at www.nycrew.org/programs.html. NYCREW president, Anna Cassan de Valry, associate director of real estate capital markets at Barclays Capital, said, "Networking is an activity crucial to NYCREW members in the development of business opportunities, career progress, and professional growth. The new on-line networking tools present both enormous opportunities and challenges to real estate and finance professionals. Our upcoming panel will discuss the differences and similarities between traditional face-to-face relationships and on-line networking, as well as strategies for maximizing the opportunities offered by both approaches." The panelists will include Jennifer Magee, co-founder and CEO of UPworld.com, Trish Rubin of New York Minute, Olivia Fox Cabane of Spitfire Communications, and Gil Allison of Right Management. Diane Schottenstein, Esq., of Seward & Kissel LLP, will moderate the panel discussion.
