Tirado of Largo: Determination, confidence and drive

Name: Lori Tirado Title: Managing Director, Largo Hospitality Finance Group Company Name: The Largo Group of Companies Years in Commercial Real Estate: 9 What were your biggest fears when you started out in your profession? This industry is dominated by men. I often wondered why and was fearful that I would not be as respected in a meeting or at a conference as a woman. With determination, confidence and drive, I easily overcame this fear. What is your favorite quote? "The greatest danger of all is not in setting our goals too high and falling short; but in setting our goals too low, and achieving our mark." - Michaelangelo What social media and/or face to face networking activities do you find most beneficial professionally? I have found LinkedIn to be the most beneficial social media outlet professionally. In building a national hospitality finance program I have found this outlet to allow me to actively engage with the appropriate audience on a consistent basis. You can easily prospect for new potential opportunities, join various industry related groups and network with key decision makers in the industry. I believe LinkedIn is the second best way to network; the best will always be a face-to-face meeting. What are you doing differently in 2014 that has had positive impact on your career? This is very simple. If someone calls you, answer the phone. It is easier today to hide behind modern technology and still stay somewhat connected; however, you lose something by only communicating by text, email or social media. By having a verbal conversation with someone, you learn about them and connect on a more personal level. This simple act has helped me build and maintain a stronger client base.
