Thru the Lens: Tishman Construction personnel participate in the Empire State Building Run-Up 2011
Racing up 86 floors, 1,576 steps and 1,050 ft. from the lobby to the 86th floor observatory, five Tishman Construction Corp. (TCC) team members competed in the 34th Annual New York Road Runners' Empire State Building Run-Up on Feb. 1. TCC is part of AECOM Technology Corp., a Fortune 500 provider of professional technical and management support services for government and commercial clients around the world.
The "WTC Climb to the Top" team, comprising TCC personnel who are currently managing construction of New York's newest skyscraper icons — World Trade Center Towers 1 and 4, performed admirably in the strenuous race. Once completed, WTC Tower 1 will be the tallest building in the U.S. at 1,776 ft.
Tishman finishers included team captain Juan Estevez, senior project manager (16:51); Brian Rabitaille, project engineer (17:40); Andrew Syvertsen, assistant project manager (16:08); Jennifer Uczen, project manager (21:12); and Terence McDonagh, senior project manager (21:20).
"I'm proud that members of our World Trade Center construction management team took part in the Empire State Building Run-Up. The dedication and team work they showed throughout their training for the run to the top of New York's tallest building is what also makes them the best team to build what will become New York's tallest structure. Congratulations to all!" said Daniel Tishman, Chairman and CEO of TCC and vice chairman of AECOM.
The "WTC Climb to the Top" team trained together for over a year, meeting weekly for an extremely demanding stair run workout. As a team, they have climbed over total of 19,000 stories together.
"After years of walking down from street level into the WTC site, it is a joy for us to finally be climbing up to reach the work areas, as the buildings now rise quickly. The act of climbing up into Tower 1 is linked to a sense of anticipation and accomplishment for all of us at the site and for New York's future," said Juan Estevez, Tishman Construction's senior project manager on 1 WTC and "Climb to the Top" Team Captain.
