Real estate developer, Macklowe, receives two preservation awards

New York, NY New York City real estate developers, Macklowe Properties, have been honored at the Lucy G. Moses Preservation Awards by The New York Landmarks Conservancy for their restoration of One Wall St.'s ‘Red Room’. In addition to this accolade, the company’s founder and chairman, Harry Macklowe, will receive the New York Landmark Conservancy’s Chairman’s Award recognizing his ongoing contribution to New York City’s revitalization and preservation.

The history of the Red Room dates back to the commission of Hildreth Meière, to create a reception area for their clients, closed to the general public. The result was a 5,000 s/f Art Deco space with a triple height floor-to-ceiling mosaic. Macklowe has recently undergone a $1 million restoration to open interior features as a new retail space.

The 32nd Lucy G. Moses Preservation Awards, recognized Macklowe Properties for their preservation of New York City’s historic architecture, notably Macklowe Properties’ Red Room Project at One Wall St. Named in honor of New York philanthropist Lucy G. Moses, the annual awards recognizes leaders, architects, and property owners for their contributions to preserving New York City’s historic real estate.

Furthermore, The New York Landmark Conservancy will recognize Macklowe with their Chairman’s Award at their annual Gala Dinner. Celebrating the restoration of One Wall St.'s Red Room, Macklowe will be honored along with Jack Cayre of Midtown Equities and Maureen Henegan of Henegan Construction for their work in protecting New York’s architecture.

Founded by Harry Macklowe, Macklowe Properties has been a developer, owner, and manager of real estate investments for over 60 years. Macklowe Properties’ project, One Wall St., is currently undergoing an office to residential conversion in New York City and is set for completion in 2022. Originally the former Irving Trust Building, One Wall St. is located at the intersection of Wall St. and Broadway and adjacent to the New York Stock Exchange. The 56-storey building comprises 566 homes ranging from studios to four-bedroom condominiums with a penthouse, set within the 20th century Landmark Art Deco building designed by Ralph Walker.

Commenting on the awards, Macklowe, founder and chairman of Macklowe Properties, said, “Throughout my career, I have tried to excel in architecture. One Wall St. being awarded the Lucy G. Moses award by The New York Landmarks Conservancy recognizes the significance of the building and the architectural contribution it has made to New York since 1928.  It is wonderful to be associated with a landmark building that never goes out of style; it is an award for Hildreth Meier, Ralph Walker, preservation, and the pursuit of excellence.”
