New York, NY Ron Moelis has been elected chairman of the board of directors of the nonprofit New York City Housing Partnership Development Corp.

Moelis is the chairman and co-founder of L+M Development Partners.

“L+M takes pride in its long-standing partnerships with the communities it serves, and it is an honor to be elected board chair of the Housing Partnership, with which we have worked on many affordable housing developments over the decades,” said Moelis.

He is also a co-founder and vice chairman of the New York State Association for Affordable Housing, a nonprofit organization that advances a policy agenda for affordable housing.

In 2010 he helped launch New York University’s Moelis Institute for Affordable Housing, an academic research center devoted to improving the effectiveness of affordable housing policies and programs. Previously, Moelis helped initiate Building Skills, a construction trades training and employment program for inner-city youth, and he now serves as the co-chairperson.

Moelis also serves on the board of trustees of the Tenement Museum on Manhattan’s Lower East Side and the board of trustees of Montefiore Health Systems. He is on the National Advisory Board at the Netter Center for Community Partnerships at the University of Pennsylvania and the Advisory Board at the Furman Center at New York University.

Moelis graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in history from the School of Arts and Sciences and a B.S. in economics from the Wharton School in 1978. He also received a J.D. from New York University in 1982 and spent a year as law clerk for the honorable Stanley Brotman of the Federal District Court in New Jersey.

“The Housing Partnership is proud to have Ron Moelis as our board chair. His impressive expertise in the development of affordable housing is very valuable as the Housing Partnership expands its mission creating and preserving affordable housing for New Yorkers,” said Jamie Smarr, NYC Housing Partnership President and CEO. “L+M, under Ron Moelis’ leadership, is a double bottom line company--its success is measured not only in financial returns but also by its positive impact in communities throughout New York,” said Smarr.

For four decades the nonprofit Housing Partnership has led relationships among private sector developers and financial institutions and City, State and Federal agencies that created and preserved more than 72,000 low and moderate-income housing units in the five boroughs, leveraging over $7 billion in private financing and utilized more than $500 million in subsidies for affordable housing. This stimulates economic activity that strengthens the social fabric of neighborhoods where people can now live in safe, comfortable, affordable homes.
