Mc Gowan Builders to be honored for Hospitality Project of 2012 - The Dream Hotel

According to Mc Gowan Builders Inc., the company and the members of the Dream Downtown Hotel project team will be honored for the Hospitality Project of the Year at the 2012 Greater New York Construction User Council Chairman's Reception. The event will take place on Tuesday, June 12 at 6 p.m. at Related Companies' MiMA, located at 450 West 42nd St. The Dream Downtown Hotel Mc Gowan Builders served as the construction manager for this complex project. The Dream Downtown Hotel is located at 355 West 16th St. in the Chelsea neighborhood and was designed by Handel Architects LLP. The hotel is owned by Hampshire Hotel & Resorts LLC. Extraordinary in design and unique in character, Dream Downtown signals an exciting and imaginative new concept in full-service luxury travel. The construction included the extensive redevelopment of an 11-story institutional structure into a high-end, high-amenity, 316-room hotel. The project scope included the removal of the entire curtain wall, demolition of a building section, creation of a courtyard, separation of the structure into two buildings (South and North Towers), demolition of all interiors, expansion of the North Tower by one floor and expansion of the South Tower by four floors. The Mc Gowan team installed a new curtain wall with custom, round windows and constructed a suspended pool above the restaurant space with a transparent acrylic bottom. In addition to the complete interior build-out with luxury finishes, the construction required all new MEP and building systems. Dream Downtown's modernist façade houses loft-inspired guestrooms and suites, a landscaped outdoor terrace with heated pool, a beach club and an expansive destination rooftop lounge offering dramatic views of the resplendent New York City skyline. There are 316 expansive loft-inspired guestrooms, including 16 suites - seven of which are pool terrace suites with direct access to the second-floor pool and beach club cabanas - and two duplex suites with outdoor hot tubs.
