Manhattan, NY According to Jack Resnick & Sons, Wolkonsky Bakery & Café will establish its first U.S. location at 8 West 40th St., a boutique 22-story office building in the heart of Midtown’s Bryant Park neighborhood.

Wolkonsky, which currently operates in 60 locations throughout Russia and the Ukraine, is renowned for its Parisian-style treats such as scratch-baked artisanal breads, specialty cakes, cookies, and homemade jams. Wolkonsky plans to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and will offer indoor and outdoor dining along with a take-out option. Opening is anticipated in late fall of this year.

The bakery and café will encompass a total of 8,100 s/f on three levels, including a prominent storefront facing out onto Bryant Park.

“We are thrilled that Wolkonsky has chosen 8 West 40th St. to launch its first bakery and café in the U.S.,” said Jonathan Resnick, president of Jack Resnick & Sons. “This shop will be an ideal amenity for the office workers, visitors and shoppers, who have been returning to the neighborhood in increasing numbers, and the perfect complement to the incomparable Bryant Park.”

Jonathan Burke and Lena Roth of JW Burke Realty LLC represented Wolkonsky in the transaction. Jack Resnick & Sons was represented by an in-house leasing team of executive managing director Brett Greenberg and managing director Fran Delgorio.

Wolkonsky is the third major lease that Resnick has finalized at 8 West 40th St. over the past two months. In April, Resnick completed full floor office leases with global commodity merchandiser Trammo, Inc. and American Friends of Tel Aviv University.

Originally designed by Starrett & Van Vleck and acquired by Jack Resnick & Sons in 1962, 8 West 40th Street contains a distinctive, two-story lobby with electronic visitor access and security, and a fully modernized elevator system with new cabs. The building recently achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification with the U.S. Green Building Council.

Other major tenants at the 137,327 s/f office building include Middlegate Securities, Vision Service Plan, The Altman Foundation, Hakimian Management Corp., and WeWork. According to Greenberg, there are three remaining full floors availabilities in 8 West 40th St. Each floor features tenant controlled HVAC, operable windows and private lavatories.
