Newark, NJ Hunter Roberts Construction Group has begun work on One Theater Square, a high-rise near The New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Dranoff Properties is the developer.
The company began work this fall and expect to have the first turnover of residential units summer 2018. Consisting of 245 rental units, 12,000 s/f of retail space and 285 parking spaces, the new building is set to redefine the city’s skyline with a curving 22-story glassed tower.
As one of three developments in the area, One Theater Square answers to the city’s vision of expanding the rental market. The proximity to the train station makes it accessible for commuters. Due to the downtown urban location, the Hunter Roberts project team will need to complete construction without disrupting its neighbors, which includes New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and Military Park.
Hunter Roberts was selected for the project based on the firm’s relationship with Dranoff Properties, the developer of the One Theater Square project, and its experience developing three other projects of similar scale in the area; these projects include the Lincoln Towers affordable housing complex for seniors, a recreation and training center for the New Jersey Housing Authority, and a new K-12 school developed by Uncommon Schools.
“There’s a lot of positive energy for redevelopment,” said Daniel Dirscherl, executive vice president at Hunter Roberts. “One Theater Square provides the opportunity to create an urban lifestyle destination that is only part of a larger vision to shape the new downtown Newark, and Hunter Roberts is proud to be an integral part of this process.”
