Goldman Copeland Associates, PC (GOCO), one of the most innovative mechanical and electrical (MEP) engineering design and consulting firms in the greater New York area, has promoted three professionals to the position of principal, and two to positions within the associate level, according to Charles Copeland, PE/LEED AP, president and CEO.Tags:

Now serving as principals are:
* John McBride, PE, principal, director of electrical engineering.
Mc Bride has more than 25 years of experience in the electrical engineering field and as Electrical Engineering department head, has overall responsibility for GOCO's electrical design projects. His expertise encompasses all facets of electrical distribution, lighting, communications systems, fire alarm and security systems, and is a specialist in mission-critical facilities. A licensed Professional Engineer in New York State, he received his BSEE from Marquette University.
* Eric Mitchell, PE, principal, director of mechanical engineering.
Mitchell, as head of GOCO's mechanical engineering department, brings his 22 years of experience in HVAC system analysis, life cycle cost analysis and energy utilization to provide effective design solutions. He has particular expertise in mechanical systems for laboratory, health and research facilities, as well as infrastructure and tenant MEP improvements. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer in New York State and Maryland, and holds a BSME from Syracuse University.
* Dan Colombini, PE/FPE/LEED AP, principal, director of plumbing and fire protection.
Colombini is a specialist in fire code analysis, fire dynamics and modeling as well as egress systems. During his more than a decade of experience with GOCO, he has developed creative fire protection and sustainable design solutions for major New York City properties, as well as some of New York City's most iconic buildings. Dan is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York, and holds the LEEP AP and FPE designations. He received his BSME from the University of Vermont, and an MSFPE at Worcester Polytechnic.
Promoted to associate levels are:
* Kevin Kemp, senior associate, senior HVAC engineer
Kemp has more than 30 years of experience in HVAC design, encompassing a broad range of expertise in new construction, infrastructure upgrades and renovation projects. He has spearheaded many of the firm's assignments, including upgrades to high-rise office buildings, tenant improvements, and educational and institutional facilities. He is a graduate of the Mechanical Engineering Program at New York Institute of Technology.
* Dan Galarza, associate, HVAC engineer
Galarza began his engineering career at GOCO in 2008, eventually becoming project manager and design engineer on a wide variety of HVAC designs for some of New York's most prominent commercial and institutional facilities. Among them are complex renovations, tenant improvements and infrastructure upgrades. He received his BSME from Northeastern University.
GOCO has been engineering innovative design solutions for more than 40 years, dating back to some of the first 1970's-era solar thermal collector designs, the award-winning series/parallel flow chilled water interconnect of multiple chiller plants at NYU Langone Medical Center, the first major under-floor air systems design for a new building in New York City (Scholastic), the 15-year restoration of Grand Central Terminal's MEP infrastructure, and many other awards.
That tradition continues this year with the awarding of US Patent #8955763 to Copeland and two others for a control sequence to reduce winter utility steam demand in Manhattan high rise buildings.
The firm also develops energy efficient strategies for projects to meet the requirements of LEED, Energy Star and the NYC Energy Code and Greener Greater Buildings Plan.
