August 11, 2014 - Design / Build
Briscoe Protective Systems Inc. co-sponsored the New York Nonprofit Press Facilities Day Conference on June 12 at Baruch College to help make a difference in educating and promoting awareness of Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning to the public. For the past 36 years, Briscoe has served the fire alarm and security system needs of nonprofits and continues to hold true to its company motto of "People Helping People Make A Difference" which reflects the same values and focus of the nonprofit community.
During the conference, Briscoe honored Ken and Kim Hansen for their advocacy efforts leading to the passage of Amanda's Law, which requires the installation of Carbon Monoxide detectors in all homes in New York state. The law is named in honor of their daughter, Amanda Hanson, who died in 2009 from CO poisoning while sleeping at a friend's house. Amanda's Law set a record for the fastest legislation passed by New York State. In addition, the Amanda Hansen Foundation www.amandahansenfoundation.org continues to educate the public by promoting awareness of CO poisoning and providing detectors for low income families.
Bob Williams, Briscoe's president had the honor of presenting the Bert Briscoe Award - named after his grandfather Bert Briscoe to Ken and Kim Hansen at a special awards presentation to kick-off the conference. "Briscoe's family oriented philosophy has been passed down from my grandfather, Bert Briscoe, and is at the core of everything we do," said Williams. "We are committed to carrying out his vision in our work and continue the push for CO legislation to prevent any further tragedies from happening."
Over the past few months, Williams has been attending and speaking at many of the public hearings on CO legislation throughout Long Island to help make a difference by advising local legislative officials to implement stricter CO laws for commercial facilities. He also founded the Just One Life program where CO devices are distributed to Long Island residents in partnership with local fire districts and then installed by Briscoe staff members.
The New York Nonprofit Press Facilities Day Conference took place on June 12 at Baruch College in New York City. Nonprofit professionals came together to discuss basic issues and best practices for running nonprofits and included panels and workshops on topics that included Energy Efficiency, Pest Control, Energy Conversions, Fire Safety Issues & FDNY Certification Training, Planning For Disasters, Electronic Systems For Security, and Solar Energy. Over 200 people attended the conference and were present to help honor the Amanda Hanson Foundation and learn how to better manage nonprofit facilities.
