Wladyka of Emtec Consulting Engineers details contributions

During the last 10 years of your career, which professional accomplishment, honor or achievement was most meaningful to you and why? I was asked to speak at SUNY Stony Brook at a "Careers in Advertising, Marketing & Public Relations" event. I truly enjoyed answering questions and giving advice to students who are eager to have a career in this industry. I was able to set up internships for a number of them and I continue to help them to be in touch with the right people. Which project, deal or transaction was the 'game changer' in the advancement of your career during the last 10 years? My recent promotion to director of marketing has enabled me to be more involved in project selection, teaming opportunities and has put me directly in contact with more clients. How do you contribute to your company and / or the industry? Being the director of marketing, my role is to keep our company up on all the happenings in the industry. We do this through research, our contacts as well as attending industry events. I am an active member with SMPS and am very excited to be re-joining the Long Island board in September. What advice would you give to women just starting out in commercial real estate? Get involved in groups that work directly with commercial real estate professionals. Corenet Global and LIREG are a great place to start. How do you manage the work/life balance? I am a new mom, so this has recently become very challenging. Luckily, I have co-workers who have been very supportive with my dual role as employee and new parent. Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why? My co-worker and mentor, Anthony Musumeci, who has taught me so much and continues to teach, challenge and help me to grow within the industry. How are you using social media to promote yourself, your products and / or your firm? We utilize Constant Contact for E-mail blasts to announce new projects and staff updates to our clients and vendors. Many of our staff members have Linked in accounts as well. Where would you like to be 10 years from today? Hopefully to be working on exciting projects with great people and have continued success in my career as well as continued happiness in my personal life with my husband Bill and our son William Jacob.
