Thru the Lens: Tahl Propp Equities (TPE) donates and distributes bags full of Christmas toys for NYCHA
Offering holiday cheer to children living in five downtown New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments that were affected by Super Storm Sandy, Tahl Propp Equities (TPE) donated and distributed bags full of Christmas toys at an afternoon party held at Campos Center, 633 East 13th St. Wrapping over $5,000 in toys, the staff from TPE's management division, Manhattan North Management, worked with the NYCHA community organization teams to transform the gymnasium into a holiday party with balloons and arcade games.
More than 150 boys and girls enjoyed popcorn, cotton candy and face painting, while being treated to a wide selection of gifts that included scooters, teddy bears, Barbie dolls, guitars, keyboards, board games and other children-friendly toys.
"We have been working with NYCHA for months, helping in any way we can," said Rodney Propp, chairman of Tahl Propp Equities. "Being able to brighten a child's holiday season following such difficult times, is very important to us as parents as well as business owners."
Since the hurricane, Tahl Propp Equities, one of the city's largest owners of project-based Section 8 affordable housing, has worked closely with the NYCHA and Department of Housing and Preservation (HPD) to provide post-Sandy resources, especially to developments located in lower Manhattan's Zone A. In addition to the holiday gifts, TPE donated 200 cases of Gatorade and Vitamin Water to these communities after the storm. Lists of vacant apartments for use, as needed, were provided to agencies, such as HUD, also immediately after the storm.
Joseph Tahl, president of Tahl Propp, said, "While our Harlem portfolio was virtually untouched, we are more than happy to deliver resources to the areas most affected. And we will continue to do so, as long as needed."
Overseeing the holiday initiative was Manhattan North Management Communications Director and Community Liaison, Jaritza Taveras.
