Hudson, NY With an expanding national portfolio, the architecture and interior design firm Spacesmith has opened a new office at 551 Warren St., 30 miles south of the state capital Albany, where the firm has served varied clients in recent years.

According to Spacesmith, the new office, its second location, will work seamlessly with the firm’s main studio in Lower Manhattan. In the Hudson Valley and capital regions, where private and public investment has been growing, the firm will expand its portfolio with public and civic commissions, workplace projects, adaptive reuse and retail facilities, higher-education works and residential design opportunities.

The firm has projects and ties in both Albany and in locally, where Spacesmith founding partner Jane Smith, FAIA, IIDA, ASID has been a resident since 2005 and served on the city’s Historic Preservation Commission for two years. Last year, Smith co-curated an exhibition with The Olana Partnership related to Hudson River School painter Frederic Church’s famed plans for his estate Olana, now a state historic site. She is a board member of the New York State chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in Albany.

Spacesmith is known for innovative design solutions focused on business strategy and end-user analysis, says Ámbar Margarida, CID, IIDA, Assoc. AIA, a LEED-accredited professional promoted this year to principal. Recent project work by the firm in the Hudson Valley has included several residences, the design of a senior center, space plans for Albany’s Corning Tower, and a real estate study for New York State that led to tens of millions of dollars in operational savings.
