Slaper of Levien: Important to have and be a mentor

Name: Jamie Slaper Title: Project Manager Company Name: Levien and Company What year did you start your career in commercial real estate: 2013 What recent honor, achievement or recognition has meant the most to you and why? Earlier this year Crain's included me in their 30 under 30 report. This was a huge compliment. As a person who has had a job since I was of legal age, I've worked hard at every task at hand. Being the youngest at my company and having recognition for my accomplishments was worth all of the hard work. What has been your experience with having a mentor or being a mentor yourself? While I was in school, my Building Systems teacher took notice that I was fascinated with the class material. Since that class we kept in touch following up with each other's career. He would always make time to look at my portfolio and resume. He would also pass my information on to any company he thought I might make a good match with. It's because of his guidance that I am where I am now. He is still a teacher and has given me the opportunity to speak with his students about their career choices (mostly women). It has definitely opened up my eyes to how important it is to have and be a mentor. To show other women that they can be in a male dominated profession and not be afraid. Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why? My college teacher who showed me that women can have high powered jobs and should demand respect. What is the first thing you do when you arrive in the office in the morning? COFFEE. What time management strategies do you find to be the most effective for you? You get more bees with honey What is the best advice you have received and who was it from? Kill them with kindness- Martin Nussbaum List 3 women that you would like to have drinks / dinner with and where would you go? What did you want to be when you grew up? A doctor until I realized what they did.
