Rochester's Cornerstone Group and Home Leasing, LLC to renovate Spa Apartments; 109-unit rental project

Spa Apartments, a historic 109-unit senior rental project, purchased by an affiliate entity of Rochester's Cornerstone Group, Ltd. is being renovated. Rochester's Cornerstone Group, Ltd. and Home Leasing, LLC are co-developers in this undertaking. The Spa Apartments facility was originally built in 1892 as the Clifton Springs Sanitarium. The building includes a chapel that has a favrile glass mosaic of the Last Supper designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The chapel is also home to an historic Williams and Charles Pilcher organ. In 1974 the sanitarium was converted to a 109-unit senior citizens apartment building. The renovation will include new kitchens and bathroom finishes, flooring, interior doors, programmable thermostats, in kind replacement of electric heat, asbestos abatement, and new entry door hardware. Windows and roofs will all be completely replaced. Elevators will be refurbished. Improvements will be made to common areas. Funding for this new housing comes from New York State Housing Finance Agency, U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Raymond James Tax Credits, Inc. and Citizens Bank. Spa Apartments developer Roger Brandt said, "Rochester's Cornerstone Group and Home Leasing are pleased to be a part of the lineage of this historic building which has been such an integral part of the history of Clifton Springs. The residents of Spa Apartments will experience a significant level of improvements as we rehabilitate their living units and the common space in the building. Work will commence in December and will take about one year." "We are honored to have the privilege to participate in the restoration of such a historic and significant housing community," said Spa Apartments developer, Nelson Leenhouts, chairman and CEO of Home Leasing, LLC. A pre-renovation celebration was held. Speakers included Jim Conners, Historian, Village of Clifton Springs, mayor Bill Hunter, Village of Clifton Springs; Marian Zucker, president of the Office of Finance & Development, New York State Homes & Community Renewal; Alison Hunt, Finger Lakes regional director for Congressman Tom Reed and Milly Deane, vice president, Community Development Group, Citizens Bank, N.A.
