MG New York Architects has officially been awarded the commission to restore The Roxy, the last remaining landmark structure at the Beacon Complex, formally the Jersey City Medical Center. The complex is located in Jersey City, New Jersey. The Roxy, built in 1938, was originally used as an isolation ward in the medical center. Since then, it was used as a dental college before finally being converted into an office building. MGNY views the 10-story Art Deco building as a lost work of art, adorned with terracotta panels in stylized floral motifs and castellated parapets. They have also already identified many hidden gems within the interior, including terrazzo floors and marble corridor walls that are just waiting to be uncovered.

The tri-state area firm will work to completely restore the historical characteristics of this marvelous structure without compromising its architectural integrity. They will begin converting the historic building into sixty-two high end residential rental units. These units will include a combination of studio, one bedroom, two bedroom, and duplex apartments. Some apartments will have private terraces that will have breathtaking views of the New York City skyline. The Roxy will be MG New York Architects’ third restoration of a national landmark within the Beacon Complex.

The Beacon Complex is located on a 14-acre site in Hudson County, New Jersey. The first Beacon landmark that MG New York Architects converted was the Tower into 128 residential units followed by their latest, The Hague which was converted into a residential complex with 241 units. The firm is excited to take on another historical restoration and conversion project of this nature. MGNY will bring The Roxy back to life for many to enjoy again, past as present.
