Racanelli Construction awarded $12 million project; Randall's Island Training Facility

Racanelli Construction Company, Inc., one of the leading construction management, general contractor and design/build resources for commercial, industrial, retail, medical, pre-engineered and multi-unit residential projects, has been awarded a $12 million project to construct a new Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA) (RK65-R2) Training Facility. Racanelli Construction will be serving as a design/builder on the estimated 14,972 s/f, one-floor facility with attic. The facility will be built from a pre-fabricated, industrious steel building system manufactured by Butler Manufacturing (Kansas City, MO). The scope of the project consists of all required professional design and construction services, along with related activities for the relocation of an existing training facility to the new pre-engineered building. This will entail all site investigations, surveying, preparation and development of design documentation, as well as the construction of the new building in conformance with the contract documents and as approved by the project engineer. Since beginning the project on June 24, 2014, the Racanelli Construction team had to address a challenge stemming from the site's poor soil conditions which required an alternate foundation resolution that incorporates piles, concrete caps and 10" concrete slab on grade. The new training facility will feature steel-frame construction with exterior steel standing seam roofing and a corrugated metal wall panel system with fiberglass batt insulation. The base of the building and stairwell will be finished with split-faced block. The window fenestration will be 1" insulated, tempered, tinted, low e-glass with thermally-broken aluminum frames. Rhythmic punctured window wall fenestration and masonry wall base and corners will anchor the attractive, contextual earth tone structure to the ground and its surroundings. When completed, the new training facility will house training rooms, a break room, cafeteria/concession area, and male/female locker rooms. The project is slated for completion by March 22, 2016. Racanelli's team for this TBTA Training Facility (RK65-R2) project on Randall's Island, NY consists of Project Executive Nicholas Racanelli, Project Supervisor Jim Dowling and Project Manager Jim Kyroglou. The Design Team consists of Baldassano Architecture LLP and their consultants, including Emtec Consulting as the MEP Engineers, Bohler Engineering, the civil engineer, and Wayman C. Wing, the Structural Engineer.
