Dorian Lam, Cornerstone Land Abstract

Name: Dorian Lam

Title: Principal and Executive Vice President

Company Name: Cornerstone Land Abstract

List 2-3 real estate associations or organizations that you are currently a member of:

  • President of the Manhattan chapter of the Asian Real Estate Association of America (an active Advisory Board member)

How do you contribute to your community or your profession?

I am the president emeritus of the Asian American Real Estate Association (Manhattan Chapter) and an active advisory board member. Our company, Cornerstone Land Abstract, also has an annual series called “Cornerstone For A Cause.” We raise money for several charities annually and have proudly raised funds for Kids For Kids, Youth Inc., and the American Heart Association (to name a few). I will also be kickstarting a series of events, working alongside New York community leaders, to bring education about real estate to members of their communities.

Who was/is your mentor and how did s/he influence/help you in your career?

Bruce Stachenfeld, founder of Duval & Stachenfeld. Bruce gave me insight on power niches and the importance of dominating in that niche.

What recent project, transaction or accomplishment are you most proud of?

I have been actively involved in several large real estate development projects in NY and NJ. I am most excited about how I have been able to continue to be an advisor to my clients, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Learning how to adapt and be a resource to my clients during a challenging time is one of the things I am most proud of. While we all had to find a way to evolve and grow, I am happy that I could learn new skills and lean on my experience in the real estate industry to help my clients successfully close deals. I am also excited about launching my new white paper that I recently completed called: “Defending the Deal.”

What led you to your current profession?

It happened rather organically, and the short story is that it happened by acquisition. I previously worked in tech and that company was acquired by a real estate company. My role evolved and this is where I am today–and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am constantly evolving in my real estate career and am immersed in many areas of the industry apart from title insurance, including being an investor myself and playing an advisory role for investors in the industry.

Top three things on your bucket list:

Traveling more extensively and being able to spend more quality time with my family; becoming a leading advisor and educator across sectors in the real estate industry; and building out and growing my company to be an integral part of the real estate industry

Favorite quote:

“What good is a deal that doesn’t close?” That is my favorite quote, because there is so much truth to it. Does it count if I came up with it?
