New York's consulting engineers play a key role in WTC rebuilding

Last month, the nation paused to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and to remember the victims and families of those who were touched by the horrific events of that day. On September 11, 2011, the world also got a close-up look at the extraordinary rebuilding and transformation that has been taking shape at the World Trade Center site over the past decade. The American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York) salutes the members of the architecture, engineering and construction industry who have been steadfastly working on the reconstruction and rebirth of the World Trade Center. Many of ACEC New York's member firms were involved in the clean-up effort at ground zero 10 years ago - providing technical expertise to assess the damage and help stabilize the slurry wall - and have remained on site ever since. As an organization, we participated in the Transportation and Commuters' Advisory Council, advising the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) on transportation infrastructure-related issues and fostering a mixed-use development. Today, the consulting engineering community is providing services in all aspects of design for the World Trade Center site and surrounding area, including civil, structural, geotechnical and MEP Engineering; construction management, construction inspection and materials quality assurance inspection services; and CCTV and security systems services. From the 9/11 Memorial and new WTC Towers to the streets, utilities, transportation hub and the PATH Station below - as well as related area projects - the following ACEC NY member firms have a role in this remarkable effort: AECOM AKF Group LLC Arup DKI Engineering & Consulting USA, P.C.
