American Institute of Architects to host Heritage Ball 2011 - Oct. 27

Heritage Ball is taking place October 27. Architects and industry professionals join together for this annual black tie event to support the AIA New York Chapter and the Center for Architecture Foundation. Today, the Heritage Ball serves as the single largest funding source for the AIA New York Chapter, Center for Architecture, and Center for Architecture Foundation to allow them to carry out their many initiatives. The Heritage Ball began in the 1980s and has grown from a meager hundred or so guests to over 1,200 attendees today. The Heritage Ball is an exciting event held to honor the rich architectural heritage of NYC and to celebrate the architects, officials, organizations, and professionals from related industries that continue the tradition of design excellence in NYC today. Party@theCenter is the official Heritage Ball after-party that packs the Center for Architecture until late into the night. All Heritage Ball attendees are given complimentary admission. Advance and at-door ticketing is available for those attending the after-party only. This year, AIA will be honoring: * Richard Meier, FAIA, FRIBA, managing partner, Richard Meier & Partners Architects * Gary Barnett, president, Extell Development Company * Janette Sadik-Khan, commissioner, New York City Department of Transportation * Leslie Koch, president, The Trust for Governors Island. The Heritage Ball will be held at Chelsea Piers, Pier Sixty. Cocktails will begin at 6 p.m., and dinner at 7:30 p.m.
