New York, NY Navillus Contracting, a NYC-based union construction company, has donated $1.2 million to disaster relief, charities and community organizations since 2014 and nearly $300,000 this year.
“We care about our global community and we recognize the need to support one another,” said Navillus president and founder Donal O’Sullivan. “Both management and employees of Navillus embrace these principles. The idea of giving back to the community is embedded within our company’s identity.”
This year, the firm supported Hurricane Florence relief efforts in the aftermath of damage caused in the Carolinas this past September, adding to its long track record of assisting communities impacted by natural disasters, including those in the Rockaways, Florida Keys and Puerto Rico.
Navillus also donated to the Adaptive Sports Foundation, which provides athletic opportunities for children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities.
Other beneficiaries for 2018 included the Skyscraper Museum – an architecture museum located in Battery Park City in Manhattan – as well as Professional Women in Construction, a nonprofit supporting women’s interests in the architecture, engineering and construction fields. Navillus also donated to the Society of Indo-American Engineers and Architects, which helps build relationships among engineering and architectural professionals of Indian origin.
The firm supported community development programs in Haiti through Haven, a nonprofit dedicated to alleviating poverty and improving living conditions in the Caribbean nation.
Navillus also contributed to the following Irish-related organizations: the Irish Arts Center Institute, which showcases Irish culture on Manhattan’s West Side; the Irish American Partnership, that works to empower the next generation of leaders; the Kerry Football Club, an Irish Gaelic football association with teams in both County Kerry and New York; the Gaelic Athletic Association, an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organization; and Gaelic4Girls, an Irish organization that fields girls’ Gaelic football teams along with Maynooth and Cork University
O’Sullivan also highlighted the community spirit among Navillus employees, noting an initiative led by Navillus General Counsel, Selina Maddock who brought together many Navillus employees and paired them with 85 low-income youth through the New York Cares Winter Wishes program. The initiative matches disadvantaged youth in all five boroughs with “Secret Santas” who buy them gifts they otherwise would not be receiving.
