My greatest accomplishment in 2010 was keeping our firm busy, productive and the same size throughout the year. Many construction firms floundered or had major layoffs, but we were very strong and continued a great pace of business. I'm very pleased we were able to hold in this market. What was your most notable project, deal or transaction in 2010? Getting the commission to build out the lobby at Tower 45 at 120 West 45th St., which is owned by SL Green, was important to me this past year. It will be a very high-end project with gorgeous fixtures and finishes. How do you contribute to your company and / or the industry? ACC Construction continues to donate to many charitable causes, among them medical research, specifically the Diabetes Research Institute, the Mann Foundation and SHARE; trade associates AREW and WX; and others I think are important, including NAIF, my alma mater Hofstra University and the Capuchin Food Pantries. What advice would you give to women just starting out in commercial real estate? Never, ever give up. Work as hard as you can, and network as much as you can. Become active in organizations, they are very helpful both professionally and personally. How do you manage the work/life balance? Balancing being a mother and being a CEO is definitely challenging. I am able to manage both roles because I have a great team of caring and hardworking people at ACC and a fantastic family who supports me in everything I do. Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career? My father has definitely been a strong influence on me. He is the reason I am in construction, and he's taught me everything about the business. He especially showed me that hard work pays off. What impact has social networking had on your business? 2011 is our year to turn it up a notch and increase our social networking. Our new website in launching within the next few weeks and we are thrilled with the chic look.
