New York City, Nassau County and Westchester County are exceptions to the May 20 requirement with deadlines now past in New York City and Nassau. The deadline in Westchester County Towns is June 17. Villages and cities have different deadlines throughout the state.
"In the current economic climate, municipalities are struggling to balance budgets and in some cases are more inclined to litigate, or at least to delay the resolution, of assessment appeals, regardless of the merits or the struggles of taxpayers", said Jay Herman, senior partner at HKCC.
