Matthew Kasindorf, a real estate attorneys and chair of the real estate dept. of the law firm of Meister Seelig & Fein, spoke at the Massey Knakal Multifamily Summit, which took place at the McGraw-Hill Conference at 1221 Avenue of the Americas. He was one of 40 top real estate authorities to speak at the summit. He spoke about investment opportunities for investors in multifamily properties and also moderated a panel discussion.
The panel included the following renowned real estate professionals: Kevin Davis, partner, Area Property Partners; Larry Gluck, founder, Stellar Management; Neil Rubler, president/CEO, Vantage Properties; and Ofer Yardeni, managing partner, Stonehenge Partners.
They focused on the opportunities and the risks of investing in multi-family properties and examined which markets are doing well and which ones are doing poorly. Mr. Kasindorf also asked the panel to discuss the terms and cap rates that active investors are underwriting as well as what capital sources and structures work in the "new economy."
The summit proved particularly timely, for the multifamily sector is heating up, and transaction volume is growing. Lenders are now out in force: Indeed, more than $8-billion has been earmarked for multi-family loans by Dime Savings, M&T, Capital One, Apple, Ridgewood, Flushing and Signature Bank, New York Community Bancorp, and Sovereign. The Summit not only examined why the multifamily sector is poised for dramatic new growth, but it also analyzed the rise of alternative multifamily property types.
More than 500 real estate professionals, representing more than 260 organizations, attended the Summit. The attendees comprised important building owners, investors, managers, and developers as well as principals with stakes in multifamily properties.
