Recently closed on a joint venture for a large office property in the South. I represented a small developer partnering with a large real estate investor. We lost our money partner just a few days before the acquisition had to close, but still managed to stay in the deal, close on time and strengthen the relationship between the JV partners which will hopefully mean more deals on the horizon. What recent honor, achievement or recognition has meant the most to you and why? Recently I was appointed the president of Win Partners, a group that was formed to support the mission of Win (formerly Women in Need, Inc.), a vibrant, dynamic and growing nonprofit organization that serves 9,000 homeless women and their children in N.Y.C. each year. In its first year, Win Partners raised more than $250,000 to support Win, and in particular Camp Win, which provides activities and adventures to the children living in Win's shelters when school is not in session. Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why? Msgr. William Linder - founder of New Community Corp. in Newark, N.J., one of the largest community development organizations in the US. He made me go to law school. What is the first thing you do when you arrive in the office in the morning? Coffee! What time management strategies do you find to be the most effective for you? I suspect that if I turned off my email periodically, I would be able to focus more ... but that is TBD. What is the best advice you have received and who was it from? See 1 above. Jane Jacobs, Debra Cafaro (chairman and CEO of $20 billion health care REIT Ventas) and Susan Sack (Managing Director Real Estate for the Robin Hood Foundation). Drinks at the Waldorf are always nice. What is your favorite quote? "I'm going back to New York City. I do believe I've had enough." - Bob Dylan What did you want to be when you grew up? A writer ... my dad was a freelance writer and a hippie and I didn't know any other jobs. Thank God for real estate.
