Company Name: JRS Architect, P.C.

What was the most challenging part of working during the pandemic?
Originally, it was the thought of our employees not being as productive at home as in the office, but that turned out not to be the case. After the first week of adjusting, it became a very effective way of working which was a surprise to me.

What was your greatest professional accomplishment in 2020?
Personally, I was the recipient of the National American Institute of Architects, College of Fellows Boney Award for my contributions to the architectural profession and to the College of Fellows, an honor that is only bestowed on one person throughout the country on a yearly basis.

What was your most notable project, deal, or transaction in 2020?
We were fortunate that our firm was selected to partner with Forchelli, Deegan Terrana to design the expansion of their Headquarters in the Omni Building in Uniondale, NY.

What are your predictions for commercial real estate in 2021?
I believe New York City will struggle to regain momentum in 2021, however, the suburbs will see a rise in companies renting smaller office space for their employees so they can be closer to their residents. I think working remotely from home a few days a week will become the norm; however, people will still want to engage with other colleagues a few days a week and still be in a safe environment closer to home. I think New York City will have to adjust the cost per sq. ft. for office space going forward.

What aspects of working from home did you enjoy most?
I think for most, not spending time commuting, having a more relaxed working environment and having the flexibility to get things accomplished around the house.
