H2M architects + engineers announces new strategic hire

Elisabeth Martin

Melville, NY New York-based consulting and design firm H2M architects + engineers (H2M) is expanding its team with the hiring of Elisabeth Martin, FAIA, as a practice leader. Formerly a principal at MDA Designgroup Architects & Planners (MDA), Martin now brings her 30-plus years of architecture and interior design experience to H2M, where she will oversee design projects for libraries and private sector clients out of the firm’s New York City office.

Martin’s career experience includes 20-plus years leading project teams in the renovation and design of institutional and residential buildings at MDA. Prior to her work at MDA, Martin spent several years as the NYC Department of Design and Construction’s library unit director, where she oversaw capital construction programs for the New York, Queens, and Brooklyn Public Library systems, as well as nearly a decade managing the Brooklyn Public Library’s capital planning program as director of planning, design, and facilities. In addition to practicing architecture and interior design, Martin has also taught courses in architecture, interior design, and planning at schools such as the School of Visual Arts, New York City College of Technology, and Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Martin obtained a Master of Architecture from the Yale University School of Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts in Design of the Environment from the University of Pennsylvania, with a year of graduate fellowship study in Venice, Italy, at the Università IUAV di Venezia. Over the course of her career, Martin has held leadership positions in the American Library Association, American Institute of Architects (AIA), and the Center for Architecture. In 2002, she received the AIA Public Architect Award and, in 2017, the Jury of Fellows of the AIA named her to its College of Fellows, an honor held by only 3% of the organization’s 100,000-plus members.

“Elisabeth brings with her decades of experience as both a detail-oriented designer and a bold team leader. Her creativity, out-of-the-box thinking, and commitment to excellence are all vital to our mission as problem-solvers,” said H2M president and CEO Rich Humann, P.E. “We look forward to continuing to grow, expand, and deliver quality architectural solutions to our clients with Elisabeth’s experience and support behind us.”
