Gilston Electric finishes renovation / fit-out of Casa Tua and Surrey Hotel

Manhattan, NY Gilston Electric has completed a full renovation and fit-out of the Casa Tua restaurant and historic Surrey Hotel. Located on the Upper East Side, the renovation is part of the hotel’s new hybrid model which combines traditional hotel rooms with long-term residences. The Surrey is Casa Tua’s debut location in New York City and features a dining room, lounge, and a private club for members.

The 98,393 s/f project featured the full fit-out, renovation, and rehabilitation of the core and shell of the famous Casa Tua private club, restaurant and Surrey Hotel. Gilston’s work transformed 100 rooms, 10 apartments, two penthouses, and numerous public spaces including the spa, gym, kitchens, and the sophisticated Casa Tua restaurant and lounge.

Rick Gilston, executive VP of Gilston, said, “We are delighted to be part of the reinvigoration of this landmark location and add to the next part of its longstanding history. Gilston Electric takes great pride in transforming New York City and building it towards the future. This project underscores our commitment to breathing new life into the city and delivering projects that exceed expectations.”

Gilston’s work included over 30 different room configurations for the total of 100 rooms, furnished and installed with over 50 different types of fixture types to adapt to different hotel room and amenities arrangements. This required the rerouting of existing generator feeders, new service switches in existing equipment, a new fire alarm system for the whole building, and a meter bank to provide separate load usage at the apartment and condo levels. Gilston installed multiple lighting control zones in small s/f spaces, with over 3,000 fixtures operating with a Lutron dimming system to create high-end dimming capabilities.

Casa Tua is open and serving authentic cuisine in a sophisticated and cozy ambience. The Surrey is leasing units to long-term residents. Other Casa Tua locations include Miami, Aspen, and Paris.

Most people think of St. Patrick’s Day as a fun footnote on the calendar. In construction logistics, however, it’s a full-scale operational variable — especially if your work touches major metro areas with major parades and, let’s call it what it is, enthusiastic celebrants.
