Manhattan, NY Loring Consulting Engineers, Inc. has promoted Oneil Gayle, PE, CEA, CEM, CBCP, LEED AP, to CEO. Michael DesRochers will retain the title of chairman. Gayle, DesRochers, and Steve Kenah will continue in their roles as Loring’s Executive Committee, responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the firm.

Jamaican-born, Gayle came to the U.S. on a track and field scholarship in 2000 to complete his study at the New York Institute of Technology, where he graduated cum laude with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Joining Loring as an intern in 2002, Gayle built an exceptional career on an accelerated trajectory, becoming COO of the firm in 2016.

“Oneil’s elevation to CEO is part of Loring’s long-term transition planning, which began over a decade ago and recognizes his significant accomplishments and contributions to the firm,” said DesRochers.

For more than a decade Gayle championed Loring’s expansion into new market sectors and geographic areas. He created and headed up Loring’s Energy Services and Commissioning Group, initiated the Next Gen program to mentor high-potential young talent, and expanded the firm’s multistate and international presence. Loring currently operates with 200-plus engineers from nine offices along the eastern seaboard, in Canada, and in the Caribbean. Gayle recently directed the opening of an affiliated firm in Jamaica and established a scholarship for promising engineering students there.

“My goal as Loring’s CEO is to continue the legacy of our founder, Joe Loring, and his commitment to building the strongest relationships with our clients and providing the greatest opportunities for our employees. I want Loring always to be the place where young engineers and professionals come to build careers, tackling the current challenges of the built environment and engineering solutions for the future,” said Oneil.

“In addition to his technical and managerial expertise, Oneil excels at bringing people together. His generosity, accessibility and natural mentoring skills will propel Loring’s growth in the coming years,” said Kenah.

Beyond his influence on the firm, Gayle's commitment extends to the community at large. He currently sits on the Executive Committee for the New York State Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC NY). Additionally, he served a six-year term as a Board Member of the Building Commissioning Association, North East Chapter and was a member of the 2016 NYC Energy Conservation Code Advisory Committee for Commercial Buildings for ACEC NY.
