Fogarty Finger designs the Nova, 23-story mixed-use high-rise in Queens

Queens, NY Fogarty Finger (FFA) has designed an addition to the Long Island City skyline. Sitting on a triangular plot of land, the Nova, a 23-story mixed-use high-rise that evokes Manhattan’s Flatiron Building, will be home to 86 condominiums with amenities. Residents will have access to a fitness center, lounge and children’s playroom, bicycle storage, laundry and package rooms, in addition to outdoor recreation spaces on the second and 23rd floors.

Sited at the intersection of 29th St. and 41st Ave., the Nova will feature dark window openings framed in metal shrouds along with fluted white terracotta panels on its façade. To accommodate the unit layouts, the team pushed the core structure to the perimeter of the building, creating a mega-frame.

The floor-to-ceiling window heights of the second-floor amenities exaggerate the curved point of architecture, creating a visual impact from inside and out. All second-floor amenities feature a neutral color palette and materials such as warm wood chevron floor patterns and shades of gray throughout, along with curated light fixtures and furniture that achieve an elevated design aesthetic. The material palette of natural stone, brass, and warm wood finishes enhances the minimal, sophisticated look of the interiors. The 725 s/f library opens to a 173 s/f outdoor terrace. The 23rd floor offers a private terrace for a particular unit, as well as a shared 732 s/f amenity terrace—both with a BBQ, sink and counter space. Views on both amenity floors are framed by a consistent architectural language.

The condo units have a unique character all their own with custom pattern bathroom stone, integrated appliances designed to feel more like furniture rather than built-in pieces, custom kitchen millwork, and natural wood floors.

The Nova is slated to open later this quarter. .
