Five employees of Israel Berger & Associates earn LEED AP status
According to Israel Berger AIA, president and chief executive officer of Israel Berger & Associates, LLC (IBA), Giulia Alimonti RA, Ed Madox RA, Dumas Martinez and Farhan Mudasir have recently passed the LEED v. 2 exam, giving them LEED AP status. Additionally, IBA has just hired Jennifer Sze, who comes to the firm with a previously earned LEED AP credential.
"We are dedicated to the continued development of our credentials in sustainable design, and will pursue the integrating of its practice at all of our departments," said Berger. "Sustainable design goes hand in hand with good design; the practice of both accomplishes architectural excellence while balancing necessary economic and practical realities of construction and maintenance of buildings."
Alimonti, Madox, and Martinez are all members of the restoration division at IBA. More specifically Madox is a specialist in roofing and water-proofing; he concentrates on roof technologies. The group's work objective varies greatly, and ranges from conventional façade repairs or restoration to complete re-building or replacement of the building enclosure. Stanford Chan, the principal in charge of restoration said, "The path to a well balanced solution in restoring a building façade is seldom straight: there will be multiple and inter-connected sets of choices and judgment calls to make; at IBA they will be underscored with the value of improving the energy efficiency and durability of the structure."
Mudasir and Sze are both working in the new construction group, so they are often involved in construction site inspections as well as in modeling new curtain-wall technologies, overseeing mock-ups of full-size exterior units and working with architects and manufacturers on new exterior wall materials and new techniques for glass exteriors.
Sze has recently completed her master in Design Studies at Harvard University Graduate School of Design, with a concentration in Sustainable Design. She received her bachelor of architecture from the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at Cooper Union. In addition to internships and part time consulting at Atelier Ten, Sze was project manager at TMT Restoration Consultants, where she supervised restoration of high rise residential, educational, commercial and landmark buildings.
