Berns of NorthMarq Capital top fundraiser for Rochester Walk MS

On May 2, the Rochester Walk MS was held in Genesee Valley Park. Sam Berns of NorthMarq Capital was the Top Fundraiser for the Upstate N.Y. Chapter raising over $20,000. Berns has been a leading fundraiser through this event since 2007, raising over $50,000. Sam's wife Lauri Berns was diagnosed in 1979 with Multiple Sclerosis. Having multiple sclerosis means that you may not be able to walk when you wake up. Or that you may suddenly have impaired vision. Or that your memory will fail you for no apparent reason. The symptoms of MS are different, and devastating, for everyone - the only certainty is that it will affect yet another person every hour of every day. Sam and Lauri have been dealing with the devastation of Multiple Sclerosis since she was first diagnosed in 1979. Over the years, they have been active participants in various MS fund raising efforts. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is dedicated to ending the life altering effects of MS. They simultaneously fund research for a cure while also helping people who currently live with MS to lead more fulfilling lives. Since 2007, Team NorthMarq has raised over $50,000 for the National MS Society. Team NorthMarq won't quit and Lauri won't either! Berns joined NorthMarq Capital in October 2006 when NorthMarq acquired the mortgage banking firm of First Monroe, Inc., which he helped found in 1986. He is currently senior vice president and managing director for NorthMarq's Rochester New York Regional Office where he is responsible for the loan production, equity placements and commercial real estate sales activities. Berns has over 20 years experience in commercial real estate in the upstate New York and Pennsylvania markets. He is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology where he received a BS in Accounting with a minor in Finance; and, he is a New York State licensed real estate broker and a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association.
