B.R. Fries & Associates, LLC, a New York-based general contracting and construction management firm, has completed a five floor, 30,000 s/f store and pet hotel for PetSmart, a repeat client. The renovation and fit-out is in the landmarked 632 Broadway building and was completed in 6 months on a fast-track schedule at a cost of $4.5 million. The project is the first multi-floor store built by PetSmart with a façade and interior in keeping with the building's landmark status and Soho architectural environment. Casco served as architect. B.R. Fries's general contracting services included demolition, installation of new MEP systems and boilers and built-out of the retail space; a pet hotel for overnight boarding including private rooms with webcams for owners to see their pets remotely; daycare facilities for dogs; training facilities; veterinary services; and storage. Existing marble columns and staircases were refaced. Decorative elements, such as brass railings, and terrazzo floors were refinished. The cellar's concrete floor was removed and recovered with new 4" thick colored concrete. This is the fourth PetSmart project for B.R. Fries which previously completed stores in East River Plaza in Manhattan and two on Long Island.
