New Hyde Park, NY Ronald McDonald House New York Metro has signed a contract with Aurora Contractors, located in Ronkonkoma, NY, to construct the new 60,000 s/f Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, which will provide comfort, support, and accommodation to families of children receiving critical care at Stony Brook Children’s.

Construction is set to begin in fall 2026, following the preparation of the 2.5-acre site by Stony Brook Hospital, which is currently underway. The new house is set to open in late 2027.

The new Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital was designed by BAM Creative and will feature 30 private family suites, communal kitchens, wellness and recreation spaces, and areas designed to foster healing and connection. Each space is purpose-built to allow families the ability to attend work or school remotely, unwind, and recharge. Parents staying at the new Ronald McDonald House will be a short walk to their child’s bedside at Stony Brook Children’s, eliminating the need for frequent or long commutes to and from the hospital.

The new house will be the second on Long Island, part of the Ronald McDonald House New York Metro chapter. In 1986, the first Ronald McDonald House was opened to families in New Hyde Park, serving the families at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. This year, the New Hyde Park Ronald McDonald House is celebrating 40 years of family-centered care with several events centered around highlighting the past, present, and future of the organization.

Aurora Contractors was directly involved in building the New Hyde Park House in 1986. Frank Vero Sr., the founder of Aurora Contractors, recalls how meaningful the project was for him and his team: “When we first partnered with Ronald McDonald House Long Island 40 years ago in New Hyde Park, it was a project we took great pride in. To be invited back all these years later to build their next home is truly special. It reflects not just continuity, but a shared commitment to supporting families when they need it most.”

“There is no one else we would rather have as a partner on this project,” said Matthew Campo, CEO of Ronald McDonald House New York Metro. “Families in Suffolk County need a Ronald McDonald House to give them safety, comfort, and proximity to their sick children and Aurora will help us to realize that goal.”

In the last 13 years, Ronald McDonald House New York Metro has been serving families at Stony Brook Children’s through the two in-hospital Ronald McDonald House Family Rooms. One Room is located in the NICU and one in Children’s. Family members are able to access these Rooms to rest, enjoy a freshly prepared meal, grab snacks, work or attend to personal matters away from the bedside. The Rooms are also outfitted with private showers and bathrooms as well as laundry facilities.

The new Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s will be the first Ronald McDonald House in Suffolk County, serving families at Suffolk County’s only pediatric hospital, Stony Brook Children’s.

Most people think of St. Patrick’s Day as a fun footnote on the calendar. In construction logistics, however, it’s a full-scale operational variable — especially if your work touches major metro areas with major parades and, let’s call it what it is, enthusiastic celebrants.
