National Jury Completes Judging of 2016 AIA New York States Design Awards

NYSCAR Member, Jim Kelly, CCIM (Syracuse) joined four architects from around the country in judging the nearly 250 projects that made up the 2016 American Institute of Architects NYS Design Awards.  With his fellow jurors, Matthew Krissel, AIA, Kieran Timberlake, Philadelphia; Keith Moskow, FAIA, Moskow Linn Architects, Boston; Georg Rafalidis, School of Architecture, University of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY;  and Mary Brush, FAIA, Brush Architects, Chicago, Jim spent ten hours studying and discussing the many projects from across the country and outside of the U.S.

Using the criteria for 17 categories ranging from massive commercial properties to incredible residential designs and unbuilt projects, the jurors picked twenty nine of the entries, as award winning quality. Jurors based their decisions on the project narrative, site plans and a set of questions that brought forward the goals of the project and its effect on the community. Recipients must be licensed in New York State.

The New York State Design Awards program is recognized as one of the most prestigious in the country.   Many AIA New York State award recipients go on to additional recognition in national programs. In 2015 the entire compliment of New York State winners were featured in Architect magazine, the official publication of the American Institute of Architects.

The NYSCAR Board of Governors/Annual Meeting will be held September 25, 2016 at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino, Verona, New York.
