2026 Women in Commercial Real Estate: Melissa Martinez, Meridian Capital Group

Melissa Martinez
Chief Risk Officer
Meridian Capital Group

What was the most rewarding project or deal you’ve worked on in the past 12 months, and why?

One of the most rewarding projects I worked on over the past year was continuing to strengthen Meridian’s risk management framework as the firm evolved. Helping design and implement a tailored, risk-based approach that supported growth while enhancing governance, accountability, and operational consistency was especially meaningful. The experience reinforced that the most successful transformations respect an organization’s entrepreneurial culture while introducing structure in a way that is practical, credible, and sustainable.

What advice would you give to the next generation of women entering commercial real estate?

Stay grounded in the passion and purpose that brought you to the industry, and let that guide your goals and decisions. Build a strong support system of mentors, advocates, and colleagues who believe in your potential and will champion your growth. Meaningful professional relationships can open doors, broaden perspective, and create opportunities that might never have emerged otherwise. Success is rarely achieved alone, and the relationships you cultivate throughout your career can have a lasting impact.

What leadership lesson has made the greatest impact on your career?

The greatest leadership lesson I have learned is that meaningful transformation begins with listening and trust. Strategy, process, and controls are essential, but lasting change only takes hold when people understand the purpose behind it and believe it will help the organization succeed. Throughout my career, I have found that durable progress comes from staying close to the business, engaging stakeholders, and building confidence through collaboration, credibility, and consistency.
