What current or recently completed project, accomplishment or initiative are you most excited about, and why does it matter for your team, clients or community? We are currently working on improving and expanding the accessibility to the historic Alice Austen Park and House, along with some structural repairs to the building and a mild renovation of the management offices facilities. The Alice Austen House is not only a treasured reminder of the picturesque suburban cottages that dotted the shore and hills of 19th-century Staten Island, but it is also a National Historic Landmark, a significant site of LGBTQ+ history, and the home of one of America’s earliest and most prolific female photographers, Alice Austen.
What do you wish more women knew about the opportunities available in the construction industry today? Although the construction industry has traditionally been male-dominant, it is now changing with the rapid increase of women in the work force with higher education and/or specialization in technical fields, like architecture, and engineering. This growth has construction related companies realizing that gender diversity is a source of better and more successful business. This is consistently backed up by studies and researches that report that women’s skills enhance communication, promote diverse and innovative problem-solving, and cultivate stronger client relationships. For women, a stronger participation in the construction industry offers more rewarding careers, with competitive compensation, job security, project variety, and growth potential.
What is something outside of work that brings you energy, balance or creativity? The Arts, especially photography. I love museums, art galleries, cinema, and carrying one of my cameras, pens and a notebook.
