Bridgette Van Sloun, AIA, CPHC ®, WELL AP
Associate Principal
Urbahn Architects

“Bridgette has been leading Urbahn’s design efforts for major new higher education projects for several years. In this role, she has successfully grown our market share in the region, has built new client relationship and delivered some of the most distinctive recent university projects in the northeast. Her projects have garnered national recognition for design quality.”

What recent accomplishment or initiative are you most proud of, and what impact did it have on your firm, clients, or community?

As one of the firm’s newest and youngest owners — and among the first women in this role — I’m especially proud of leading impactful higher education projects while helping guide Urbahn Architects into its next generation. Recent highlights include the completed Lehman College Nursing School and the Farmingdale State College Computer Science Building currently under construction. Beyond individual projects, I oversee long-term campus relationships, where our work supports broader institutional goals through both new construction and renovations, strengthening lasting partnerships with our clients.

What is one major challenge you’ve overcome as a leader, and what did it teach you?

Stepping into ownership at a relatively young age — while also bringing extensive project experience — presented the challenge of establishing my voice among more seasoned peers. It reinforced the importance of leading with confidence, understanding, and consistency. I’ve learned that credibility is built not just through years, but through thoughtful decision-making, technical expertise, and delivering results. That experience has shaped how I lead today: with clarity, collaboration, and a focus on earning trust across teams and clients.

What daily habit or routine helps you stay focused or motivated as a leader?

Early mornings focused on self-care — running, reflection, or quiet time — to show up at my best.

What book, podcast, or app has most influenced your approach to leadership?

Endurance running books shaping resilience, perspective, and leadership mindset.

Who has had the greatest impact on your career or leadership journey?

Women clients and mentors who placed their trust in me and created opportunities for growth.
