What is one project or achievement in your career that you are most proud of, and how did it impact your organization or community?
I had the opportunity to manage the full construction of an affordable housing project in the South Bronx. We were able to elevate it from the traditional affordable housing project with community-focused amenities and a modern, welcoming lobby. At the end of the project, we had the opportunity to meet many of the tenants who would be moving in. I’ll never forget the happiness and joy they shared entering the building for the first time. This experience reminded me how construction can transform lives and strengthen communities.
What trends or innovations do you believe will shape the future of your field, and how are you positioning yourself (or your firm) to be at the forefront?
AI and robotics are enabling greater efficiency in the building process. We’re seeing how robotics can create more accurate layouts to help mitigate design issues before the building process is underway. At Suffolk, we have a separate arm of the company that invests in advanced technologies. Through our BOOST program, we partner with startups to develop and pilot technologies on our jobsites. Seeing these innovations deployed on our sites shows how far the industry has come.
Do you have a hidden talent or a surprising fact about yourself that most people wouldn’t know?
I was a contestant on Family Double Dare as a kid!
Who or what has inspired you most in your career, and what advice would you share with the next generation of women entering the A/E/C industry?
I’m constantly inspired by the newer generation of women I meet entering this industry. We are moving towards better industry representation across the board. Today’s construction industry increasingly recognizes and elevates women leaders. It shows tremendous progress from when I started in my career. My advice to the younger generation of women is to trust in your abilities. Self-doubt can be overcome by having the confidence that you have the capabilities and wherewithal to succeed in this industry.
What’s your favorite way to recharge or get inspired outside of work?
I enjoy reading and traveling. I have visited over 30 countries and counting. Next up, Thailand!
