2023 Women in Construction: Rebecca Knorr, Titan Engineers, PC

Rebecca Knorr, PE
Project Manager
Titan Engineers, PC

In the past year, what project or accomplishment are you most proud of? Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work on a variety of projects with talented engineers. Each of these projects has challenged my engineering knowledge and molded my leadership skills. This past year, I became the first woman to be internally promoted to Project Manager at Titan Engineers. I am extremely proud to have earned this position and am excited for the opportunity it symbolizes for our younger engineering staff.

What was a pivotal point in your career? In 2019, I was privileged to co-found Women of Titan, an affinity group designed to build a safe community of support and encouragement, and to promote respect for women in the engineering profession. As a young female engineer, this type of community was not readily available to me in environments with all-male leadership, making it difficult to envision a future in this career. Now, as a more seasoned engineer, I want to make sure future generations have something to aspire to, with an example to follow and goals to work toward. Creating this group has truly changed the trajectory of my career, and it is empowering to be able to share my experiences, provide advice, and be a mentor to younger women engineers.

What is your favorite building in New York? The Hudson Yards complex has a number of interesting structural features, particularly the Vessel and The Shed. The Vessel’s unique honeycomb shape is intriguing and inviting, with a very unconventional structural support system. I think the concept of the Shed is fascinating and poses numerous design and construction challenges. The light-weight insulated truss shell system juxtaposed against the sleek main structure is beautiful, and the ability of the structure to transform the space to fit the needs of various exhibits is, in itself, a work of art.

Many attorneys operating within the construction space are familiar with the provisions of New York Lien Law, which allow for the discharge of a Mechanic’s Lien in the event the lienor does not commence an action to enforce following the service of a “Section 59 Demand”.
