2023 Women in Construction: Celia Dick, AMA Group

Celia Dick
Principal
AMA Group

What is your favorite building in New York? For me, I go back and forth between the Guggenheim and the Zaha Hadid buildings, but I ultimately appreciate the latter more. The Architect, Zaha, was an outlier in the field for many reasons. Individually, she stood out as an outlier in her field. Her building designs broke away from the typical linear structures with her wonderful curves and softened the approach. She also used a mixture of different types of materials that strayed from the standard. I really like the idea of building something that can integrate into different landscapes.

What was a pivotal point in your career? For me, a pivotal point in my career was becoming a principal at AMA Group. I am starting to see my long-term goals come into play and I have the opportunity to challenge myself more. It is an incredible time where I have the opportunity to act on things I said I wanted to do years ago. In this position, I have had the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and take on tasks such as business development. I am seeing myself go where I want to go, and that is so fulfilling to me.
