2022 Women in Professional Services: Allison Tomlinson, Gensler

Allison Tomlinson
Principal & Regional Legal Counsel
Gensler

In the last 12 months, what was your TOP career highlight? In addition to being the regional legal counsel for Gensler’s Northeast offices, I recently became the co-chair of the firm’s internal Global Race and Diversity Committee (GRDC) to provide insight, input, and oversight of progress toward the firm’s five-point action plan to create an equitable future.

In the last 12 months, what ONE award were you most proud to receive? I was named to the Crain’s New York Business 2022 Notable Black Leaders and Executives list, which recognizes my contributions in elevating New York City’s Black community.

In the last 12 months how have you helped your industry grow through professional creativity, innovation and leadership? I am Gensler’s Northeast Region Diversity and Inclusion Committee Leader. I oversee a regional task force that ensures the firm’s DEI strategies are addressed locally through employee engagement, educational programs, community impact, and design charettes that focus on gender, race, ethnicity, and gender identity equity issues.

What advice would you give the next generation of women in your industry? As you grow in your career, always remember to lift as you climb. Reach back and bring other women and people of color along with you. Be a mentor and a sponsor. And always continue to be a lifelong learner.
