Nominee’s Name & Job Title: Ryan Bieber, Associate

Nominee’s Company/Affiliation: Urbahn Architects

Nominee’s City & State of Employment: New York, NY

What is your management style?

I manage my projects and teams to achieve the clients’ expectations for the end product of built environment. This starts with the staff—I believe in encouragement, praise, mutual respect, and serving as a role model for the team. I also utilize failures as teachable moments and instill a sense of ownership among team members.

Describe what you would consider to be ONE of your top career highlights:

I’ve had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, from billion dollar stadiums to small bathroom rehabs. I immensely enjoy witnessing people using built environments created by my teams. For example, seeing someone using an elevator that you designed to reach a previously inaccessible location is incredibly satisfying.

What award were you most proud to receive?

My firm, Urbahn Architects, was recognized as the 2019 ENR New York Design Firm of the Year. I was among the employees chosen to accept the award on behalf of the firm. It was quite an honor.

What leadership role outside of the workplace is most rewarding to you?

I have helped to spearhead several volunteering efforts by Urbahn Architects’ personnel, including fundraisers, volunteering, and architectural build-outs for organizations serving the disadvantaged, including shelters operated by the Bowery Residents’ Committee. Helping others is always worth the work.
